“What the hell did you bring to the house?” – mom + dad
So, as you can tell, I have been slowly moving back to my parents’ house. Well, I technically already moved in, but I have so much stuff left at the W house and I have till this weekend to clear out!
One of the things I brought home recently were my collection of sorority paddles. I had a hard time trying to explain to my parents why these heavily decorated wooden paddles are valued — even after college. After much miscommunication, I explained them to being a sort of a trophy and a present of respect.
I laughed so hard when my mom said she wished I had gotten money instead. LOL! Well, in a way I did because we ALL know paddles can cost up the wazoo.
It took me a while to figure out where exactly I should put all of these and I had to stop my mom from putting it in the garage. Haha. In the end, I stacked them all behind my closet door that I keep open. A place that is out of reach but also easily accessed in case I get the “I wish I was in college again” blues.
I know that each and every one of the paddles represented a great part of my life. I dedicated my entire college experience to my sorority and loved every single moment of it. I’m blessed to have collected so many “trophies” within that time.
